RT for "site last modified"?

Hi,
I'm searching for a RT that displays the date of any article which was last modified - for example below the navigation.
The solution I found was to place an article with the "DATE_ARTICLE" RT in it. But then I have to update it to if I make any changes.
Did someone try this before?
So if someone comes up with a solution...
